RULES & CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS

GENERAL CODE OF CONDUCT:

  • Students should come to IIBM in formal attire as prescribed by the institute. They should avoid any attire or behaviour deemed indecent or inappropriate by faculty or staff members.

  • Students must carry and display their ID cards on campus. Security personnel are authorized to check ID cards and personal belongings. Refusal to present an ID card upon request may result in disciplinary action.

  • While on campus, students should ensure their behaviour does not disrupt lectures or academic activities.

  • Students must regularly check notices and updates from the administration and regularly visit the website for information.

  • Smoking, drinking, and gambling in any form within the campus premises are strictly prohibited and it is a criminal offence.

  • The use of mobile phones is not allowed in classrooms and academic areas; they may be used only in designated areas such as the canteen or common rooms.

  • No student shall form any associations without prior written permission from the Director.

  • No student is allowed to communicate or share any information about IIBM with the press or media without authorization.

  • As per University rules, a minimum of 75% attendance is mandatory. Students failing to meet this requirement may have their names removed from the institute’s roll call. Placement commitments will not be considered as a reason for attendance relaxation.

  • In case of illness, students must inform the Course Coordinator and submit a valid medical certificate within seven days.

  • Students should maintain discipline and refrain from any behaviour that could damage the reputation of the institute. Any misconduct will invite strict disciplinary action.

  • Students are not permitted to use the Director’s office, faculty rooms, conference rooms, or administrative offices without explicit permission.

  • Prior approval from the management is required for organizing events, get-togethers, or parties within the institute premises.

  • Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited within the institute. Any violation will be dealt with as per the regulations, and complaints should be reported to the Prevention of Ragging Committee.

  • Sexual harassment is a serious offense. Students facing any such issue should contact the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Committee, whose details are displayed on campus and the complaint name shall be kept confidential

  • Self-discipline is the best discipline. All students are expected to follow the rules and regulations to ensure the smooth functioning of the institute. Any violation of these rules will result in disciplinary action as per the regulations of the University of Mumbai, Indira Institute of Business Management (IIBM), and other relevant statutory bodies.

ACADEMIC RULES AND DISCIPLINE:

  • Lectures begin at approximately 9:30 AM as per the timetable or faculty schedule. Each session lasts for 90 minutes. The specific schedule will be displayed on the notice board as well on the website.

  • Students must be in classrooms at least five minutes before the lecture starts.

  • No student is allowed to enter or leave the classroom while a lecture is in progress without permission.

  • Students must conduct themselves appropriately during lectures and maintain silence in the campus premises.

  • A minimum of 75% attendance is required to appear for end-term examinations. This rule is non-negotiable, and the management’s decision on attendance matters is final.

  • Students are expected to participate in guest lectures, industry seminars, cultural functions, and workshops organized by the institute. Unauthorized absenteeism from these events will invite disciplinary action.

  • Any act of academic dishonesty, including cheating or plagiarism, will lead to serious consequences such as examination cancellation or rustication from the institute. The management’s decision will be final.

  • Students must seek prior written approval for leaves due to medical reasons or emergencies. If an examination is missed, there will be no re-exam unless permitted by the faculty.

  • It will be mandatory for students to submit the assignment on the schedule date as notified by the subject faculty

LIBRARY RULES:

  • Students must wear their ID cards in the library.

  • Books will be issued only against valid library cards.

  • Each student can borrow a maximum of four books for a period of seven days. Late returns will incur a fine of Rs. 10 per day/book

  • Library cards are non-transferable.

  • The library is to be used strictly for studying and borrowing/returning books. Group discussions or other activities are not permitted inside the library.

  • All library books must be returned before the completion of the course/program. Certificates and mark sheets will not be issued without a No Dues Certificate from the librarian.

  • Students must be aware of library rules and timings as displayed on the notice boards.

COMPUTER LABORATORY RULES:

  • Students must wear ID cards to enter the IT lab.

  • They must sign in and out in the lab register, noting their name, class, and time.

  • Students must be aware of IT lab rules and timings as displayed on the notice board.

  • Lab access is not allowed during lecture hours without permission.

  • Eating, drinking, and carrying personal belongings into the IT lab are prohibited.

  • The IT lab is strictly for academic purposes. Accessing unethical or non-academic websites, chatting, or playing games is strictly forbidden and will invite disciplinary action.

DISCIPLINARY PROCEDURES:

  • For any disciplinary issue, the Director will raise the matter to Internal Complaint Committee (ICC) for enquiry purpose.

  • The ICC should take written statement of the complaint and the witness and give a proper hearing to the accused also and prepare a proper report

  • Based on the committee’s findings, the Director or designated authority will decide the penalty, which will be proportionate to the offense.

Disciplinary actions may include:

  • Warning

  • Censure

  • Fine

  • Suspension

  • Rustication
